Foundation Degree in Applied Professional Practice

There are a huge number of employees at all levels in organisations who believe they are capable of gaining Higher Education (HE) qualifications but who also believe that they are excluded from the chance of ever completing them.

The reasons why they have no formal proof of their abilities and skills are manifold; social backgrounds, economic, peer pressure, career breaks, all are understandable and none of them represents a long standing reason to forego education. This degree with its broad entry requirements and absence of examinations is designed to give that cohort of employees the opportunity to realise their potential. As the designer of the programme I am uniquely positioned to understand the traumatic aspect of coming to HE later in life ( I was 46 when I got my first degree).

The programme is modular and can be obtained via work based learning. Much of the learning process will be completed within organisations and the delivery staff engaged on the programme will offer a high level of support and guidance. There are 10 modules split over two years and the final module in both year one and year two are workplace projects based, and each year of study contains 120 credits.

The programme will allow learners to develop research skills and to examine their own and colleagues workplace practices. Students will also be encouraged to examine their previous learning and to present a claim for advanced standing via Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) or Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL). There will also be an opportunity to 'customise' the award for employment sectors by specific modular learning outcomes allied to highly specialised content that may be devised via the programme team.
