Staff Overview

Dr Rom Okeke is a Senior Lecturer in Project Management at the School of Management, Cardiff Metropolitan University, Cardiff, Wales, UK.

Prior to this role, he was a Lecturer in Project and Operations Management, and Research Fellow at the Institute of Security & Information Systems, Lancashire School of Business and Enterprise, University of Central Lancashire, Preston, UK, where he received Ph.D. in Project and Operations Management (research focused on Cybersecurity and Analytics), MSc in Computing, PG Cert in Business and Management Research Methods, and Certificate in Employability.

Rom is PRINCE2 certified and a passionate researcher with outstanding tracks records in areas of Project Analytics, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Risk Modelling, Project Evaluation and Social Return on Investment, Operations Research & Decision Sciences as well as Widening Participation particularly BAME Employability related studies.

Rom has over 11 years of successful leading of multidisciplinary high-quality research and projects for SMEs, corporate and government organisations across UK and West Africa where he used analytics and decision modelling tools to generate evidence-based return on investment, practices and policies.

Rom’s contributions to research and policy development have been recognized in various awards including University of Central Lancashire’s Star Award for his contributions to Office for Students’ funded Future U: Uni Connect Lancashire, England, UK; and Goldstein Award Finalist by the Centre for Problem-Oriented Policing at Arizona State University for his contributions to project analysis of the UK Home Office funded £4.1M police operations programmes at Lancashire Constabulary Headquarters, England.

Rom is an Associate Fellow of HE UK, member of Association of Project Management, Institute of Operations Management, UK Society of Research Software Engineering and the Royal Statistical Society and British Educational Research Association.

Teaching

  • Rom is Module Leader for Project Risk Management (MPM7003) and Logistics in a Global Context (ISC7000).
  • He leads teaching and seminar session for Project Management Theory and Practice (MPM7001) and Project Leadership (MPM7002) as a support Tutor for Contemporary Operations Management (BSP5068).

Current research project grant

  • Investigator : £5K as part of £153,379 collaborative research project lead by Cardiff School of Education & Social Policy, funded by the Welsh Government, with focus on creating Virtual campus for Professional Learning: Evaluation Curriculum Models for BAME and Professional Learning in Education for Diversity in Welsh education institutions, Sept. 2021 to Aug. 2022.

Completed research project grants

  • Investigator: £26K (funded by Welsh Government): Quantitative and Qualitative Research Study on BAME Recruitment and Retention to Teaching in Wales, Jan. 2021 to April 2021.
  • PI: £22K (funded by Office for Students England):Empirical investigation of attitudes and experiences of BAME learners in Lancashire towards HE progression, August 2020 to July 2021;
  • PI: £2K (LBSE Seedcorn): Scoping Study of OPTIMAL SURF: Development of OPTIMAL analytical System using NLP for vUlnerability information extRaction from heterogeneous Corporate Fraud data sources, Aug. 2020 to April 2021.
