Staff Overview

Dr Ana Calderon is a senior lecturer in Computing at Cardiff Metropolitan University, with a background in mathematical computer science, and in particular expertise in game semantics for programming languages and on developing new frameworks to model programming paradigms. She is interested in creating mathematical tools for modelling computing concepts, but also in applying them to real-world problems. Examples include developing and analysing frameworks for communications between humans and autonomous systems during disaster relief, and developing the mathematical foundations of AI algorithms behind medical applications.

Teaching

  • Ph.D. supervision
  • Mathematical Foundations for Technology
  • Research Skills
  • Final Year Project Coordination

Research

Some current projects include:

  • mathematical modelling of on-line communications (in specific platforms), using GT to understand influence in closed networks
  • neural networks for medical applications
  • user centred modelling
  • building game theoretic models of compliance-based inspection
  • information extraction during disaster relief
