Who can use the Met Active facilities at this time?
Unfortunately, for the time being we have had to limit access to Met Active facilities to students and staff. Student membership will be free for the entire academic year while existing staff members will be able to use the facilities for free until January 2021.
I’m an external member, what should I do?
External members are able to claim a refund for the time remaining on their membership or freeze their current membership. If you would like a refund please contact us via email, phone or on social media. We anticipate being able to open the gym to externals early next year and would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.
What do I have to do before using the gym?
To use the gym or attend a class you are required to book in for a slot using the Cardiff Met Sport app, which is free to download on app store or play store, or online. Currently you must book in for either the weights section or cardio section of the gym, with no cross over allowed between these areas due to max capacity rules in place in each room. Each session lasts for 45 minutes and is currently limited to one booking per person a day. You can book a class or gym session up to seven days in advance.
What should I do on the day I attend?
When moving around the campus you are required to wear a mask. In line with current guidelines in Wales masks must be worn at all times apart from when exercising. This includes when entering and exiting the building or when moving around rooms. If you experience any Covid-19 symptoms, are waiting on a Covid-19 test result or have come into contact with anyone who has Covid-19 please do not use the facilities.
WWhat other changes should I be aware of before attending?
Unfortunately we are not able to provide shower facilities at this time. Access to changing rooms is also limited to one person at a time. To avoid queuing and allow you to begin your workout in a timely manner we advise that where possible you arrive in exercise clothing. We have also adapted the layout of the gym to comply with social distancing rules. Please pay attention to signage, follow the one-way systems in place and wear a mask when moving around the facility.
What If I cannot attend a booking
To allow us to open our facility to as many people as possible if you are unable to make your booking please let us know in advance. We ask that you give us 24 hours notice when cancelling a booking to allow time for someone else to take your slot. Where this notice is not given, a missed booking fee will be applied to your account.
What if I miss my slot as I have Covid-19 symptoms or come into contact with someone who has Covid-19?
If you have booked but are unable to attend the gym for reasons relating to Covid-19 then the missed booking policy and fee will not apply. If this is the case please let us know by emailing email@example.com or by phoning 029 2041 6743 (Cyncoed)/029 2041 6779 (Llandaff).
What should I do when I arrive at the gym?
If you drive to campus then please remain in your car until the start time of your gym session to limit queuing at the front entrance. A member of the Met Active team will meet you at the outside door to the gym and sign you in for your session. Please do not enter the building until signing in with a member of our team.
What should I do when I arrive for a class?
The procedures are the same as above. However, once in the building please wait outside the class studio following the social distancing signs on the ground and the instructor will advise you on how to enter and leave the studio
What should I do when leaving the gym?
Please leave promptly when your time slot has expired. To protect the safety of our gym users we have 15-minute cleaning windows between bookings which can only take place once the facility has been emptied. Your compliance in leaving on time will help ensure the safety of all gym users.
