Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP)
A KTP is a funded partnership between a company, Cardiff Met and an exceptional graduate (Associate). The project team work in synergy to deliver a strategic project designed to focus on the business need to develop and grow. KTPs address a knowledge / capability gap within the company by accessing and embedding appropriate academic knowledge from the University via the Associate.
Celebrating 50 years in 2025, KTPs have been consistently driving innovation and collaboration between businesses and universities across the UK. This pioneering programme has supported thousands of organisations over the 50 years to develop new products, processes, and services by connecting them with academic expertise and supporting the embedding process through a robust, proven project management framework.
Cardiff Met has played a central role in developing KTPs in Wales and to mark the 50-year milestone celebrated, alongside the Welsh KTP community, at the Pierhead Building on 20 March 2025. Two Cardiff Met KTPs featured in the showcase film for KTP@50 created for the occasion, one of which was our collaboration with Sevenoaks Modular (SOM). This partnership enhanced the design, manufacture, and installation processes for timber frame prefabricated modular buildings.
