Profile

I entered the teaching profession after spending 10 years working in the commercial sector. I gained a BA (Hons) degree with QTS in 1999 having specialised in Mathematics and Physical Education and subsequently completed a Master’s degree in Leadership and Management in 2006.

I now have nearly 20 years teaching experience, having taught all age groups throughout the Primary age range 3 - 11 years. During my time in school I have been subject leader of ICT, Mathematics and Numeracy. I have considerable experience of monitoring, evaluating and reviewing learning and teaching standards throughout the school. I have held the positions of Teacher Governor and Governor Member of the School’s Finance Team. I enjoyed being a school mentor and supporting PGCE and BA (Hons) students to become teachers of the future.

In (2009) I was seconded to LA School Improvement Team as Mathematics Advisory Teacher. In this role I supported all 26 primary schools and 4 High Schools throughout the authority. I planned and delivered Inset training, observed and evaluated learning and teaching standards giving written feedback and provided advice pre and post Estyn Inspections. I was also involved in a Wales Government initiative, to raise standards in Mathematics by working with schools to identify the pupils to be involved.

Since January 2016 I have been privileged to join the team of dedicated and enthusiastic tutors and mentors on the PGCE Primary programme. I am responsible for mentoring PGCE and GTP students and strive to deliver stimulating and innovative lectures in Science, Mathematics and Knowledge and Understanding of the World. I am also working as part of the TAPS Cymru assessment research project to develop a Science, self-assessment tool for schools and teachers. I was honoured to have been nominated for the 2016 student led Fellowship award.

I like to keep active and really enjoy using the university gym facilities and attending its excellent range of fitness classes.
