Research

Sally graduated from Cardiff University in 1989 with a degree in Zoology and Biochemistry and remained in Cardiff to study for a PhD in Biochemistry. In 1993, she took up a position at Bristol University as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Anatomy, where her main research interest was the composition of mucin glycoproteins and their role in mucosal defence. She came to UWIC in 2000 as a Senior Research Fellow and in 2003 became a Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Sciences, with a particular interest in Cellular Pathology. Currently, she is involved in a research project looking into the diagnostic value of measuring cytokines in cervical screening samples and is also supervising a PhD project investigating the effects of components of honey on several cell types involved in wound healing. Sally is a Member of the Institute of Biomedical Science.
