Type of outward mobility:

Santander Scholarship teaching and research five week trip.

Host university:

Universidad de Santiago de Chile, Chile

Information:

'I used the Santander Scholarship to finance a five week research trip in South America to gain knowledge on the art of ancient art made before the times of the Aztecs and the Inca. I stayed at Santiago, Easter Island, and Quito in Ecuador, where I had the chance to visit museums, get to know their collections by drawing masks and other art works, and to collect masks and esoteric objects, such as magic soaps for my second year Field project: Magical Objects: Masks and Reliquaries of the World.

Whilst in Santiago, I had the opportunity to deliver lectures and mask making workshops to BA students of Universidad de Santiago de Chile. The staff and students there were very accommodating, and helped me to learn more about ancient South American art, and a little more Spanish.

I would like to thank Santander and the Outward Mobility team for this excellent opportunity that has had a very positive impact on my teaching and research.'
