Work Placements

Information for Employers

We run one of the largest and most established university work placement schemes in Wales and are dedicated to enhancing our students' employability through work placements.

To do this we require the active and continued support of employers to work in partnership with the University and offer work experience placements to our students.

We believe our students can add value to your organisation as they are highly motivated, have specialised knowledge suitable for your business requirements, and can bring fresh ideas and an external viewpoint.

Offering a work placement

We have a dedicated Careers Team to help you find the right talent to suit your business needs, whether your organisation is a small business, a large corporation or a voluntary organisation.

Are you able to offer a work placement (usually unpaid) to allow a student to gain experience in the working world?

Contact us: csmworkplacements@cardiffmet.ac.uk.

Length of Placement

The timing for our placements can vary but the majority of our students will complete 15 days through term time and Fridays are free of lectures to allow them to do this. If this is not suitable for the placement you have in mind, please contact us as timings can be flexible.

Students can also complete longer placements 10 weeks during the summer vacations and we actively encourage our students to seek 12 month internship between their second and third year of study.

Cost to Employer

A 15 day placement is unpaid and the students are available to complete short projects that are of use to you the employer, or to undertake routine work in the company’s area of expertise.

Supervision and Support

We ask employers to monitor and support student's during the placement. We ask you to allocate a line manager to keep an eye on the student’s progress and also offer guidance and support throughout the placement. You will work in partnership with one of placement support advisers and it is their responsibility to ensure that both you and our student get the most out of the placement.

We will endeavour to work with you to recruit the right student who will make a real contribution to your organisation whilst developing their own personal and professional skills. Our students will be representing your organisation when they are with you and we make sure that they are aware of the responsibility this carries.
