Future sport coaches and those already working in the industry are set to be inspired by stories of female athletes, researchers and coaches who have paved the way for a more inclusive sporting landscape at an event hosted by Cardiff Metropolitan University this International Women’s Day (Friday 8th March 2024).
Inspire Inclusion, a free event at Cardiff Met’s Cyncoed campus, will delve into the issues of inclusivity, diversity and empowerment within sport coaching, bringing together women from across sport for thought-provoking conversation.
Stef Collins, GB Basketball player and coach; Funmi Oduwaiye, GB shot and discus para-athlete; and Sarah Jones, Olympic bronze medallist with GB Hockey, are some of the names joining Team Wales’ Q&A panel, hosted by Ria Burrage-Male, former Hockey Wales CEO and player. The group of women will discuss how they broke barriers in sport and challenged stereotypes across the industry.
Laura Williams, Assistant Director Sport Physical Activity and Health at Cardiff Metropolitan University, said: “As a University, we are producing future leaders in sport coaching and want to see every graduate go on to thrive in their career. Sport coaching remains a heavily male dominated industry and this has to be addressed so every individual can feel that the profession is inclusive. The event aims to empower attendees to learn from the experience of successful athletes and coaches, to champion inclusivity and keep striving for change in the industry.”
The event is free and open to anyone who is pursuing a career in sport coaching or works in the industry already, and will include:
