Welsh Postgraduate Taught Master's Incentivisation Bursary

The Welsh Postgraduate Taught Master’s Incentivisation Bursary is a Welsh Government initiative which provides a tuition fee remission of up to £7,000 for postgraduate students starting a STEMM subject (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or Medicine related) programme (£2,000) OR/and a programme through the medium of Welsh (£1,000) OR/and who are aged 60 years of age or over on the first day of the first academic year of the course (up to £4,000).

Students must be classed as a Home student for fee paying purposes and be ordinarily resident in Wales, or ordinarily resident in the Republic of Ireland or Islands (Channel Islands/Isle of Man) and be resident in Wales on the first day of the first academic year of your course.  

The award will provide tuition-fee remission up to £7,000. 

  

​Award Package      

The award provides students with tuition-fee remission and is not a cash award:

£1000 for those undertaking a programme through the medium of Welsh (40 credits minimum Welsh medium content), OR/and;

£2000 for those undertaking a course in a STEMM subject (browse our STEMM courses here), OR/and;

£4000 for those who are 60 years of age or over on the first day of the first academic year of your course.

Eligibility

A. You must be classed as a Home student for fee paying purposes.

B. You must be ordinarily resident in Wales, or ordinarily resident in the Republic of Ireland or Islands (Channel Islands/Isle of Man) and be resident in Wales on the first day of the first academic year of your course. 
You are ordinarily resident in the relevant residence area if you have habitually, normally and lawfully resided in that area from choice for the three years prior to the start date of your course (and have not moved there for the purpose of education). Temporary absences from the residence area would not stop you being ordinarily resident. 

C. You must have a confirmed place and be enrolled on a full or part-time taught Postgraduate Master’s course, worth a minimum of 180 credits, at Cardiff Metropolitan University in the academic year 2023/24.

D. You must be embarking upon a taught Master’s degree programme at Cardiff Metropolitan University and be 60 years of age or over on the first day of the first academic year of your course, and/OR the programme must be an eligible STEMM programme and/OR the programme must be taught through the medium of Welsh (40 credits minimum Welsh medium content).

How to Apply

Eligibility will be assessed automatically following your application to study with us at Cardiff Metropolitan University.  There is no separate application process to undertake in order to be considered for this award.

Award correspondence will be sent to the email address that is registered with Cardiff Metropolitan University during your application to study with us.

Applicants will be notified regarding their eligibility at the earliest possible opportunity following application to study with us at Cardiff Metropolitan University.
