Welsh Language Provision v English Medium Provision - Graduate outcomes
Students with Welsh language skills who completed part of their course in Welsh are over 10% more likely to achieve better professional-level outcomes and to have a career that is on track, compared to those who studied exclusively in English.
Language | In work/in study | Professional level outcomes | Career on-track |
---|---|---|---|
Study through medium of English | 95.2% | 76.9% | 77.9% |
Study through medium of Welsh | 98.7% | 89.7% | 90.6% |
Overall | 95.3% | 77.2% | 78.3% |
There are several advantages to choosing to study a course partly or fully through the medium of Welsh:
- An opportunity to receive additional funding
- Excellent lecturers and resources
- Be part of smaller groups
- An opportunity to develop specialist terminology in two languages
- Develop bilingual skills that will benefit you in your future job search
- On average, salaries for bilingual jobs are higher
What support is available?
If you don't feel confident enough to study a course entirely through the medium of Welsh, there are a number of courses available that offer you the option to study only a part of your course through the medium of Welsh.
Support is available for students who are studying courses partly through the medium of Welsh to help them improve their spoken and written language skills.
