"Becoming a Special Constable during the degree has enabled me to learn all about the role of a Police Officer, apply things I’ve learnt into my modules and prepare myself for when I join the police full-time. It has been amazing to experience what it is like to be on a Neighbourhood policing team and on Response policing. A highlight for me was receiving a ‘Certificate of Commendation’ from the Chief Officers of the Special Constabulary for my efforts to help save a man’s life on a bridge in Bridgend.”

“I’ve really enjoyed my journey at Cardiff Met and I’d recommend the Health & Social Care degree to anyone. The tutors on the course are incredibly experienced and supportive, providing constant encouragement and guidance over the course of the degree. At the end of my first year I started volunteering for a housing association based in Newport as a floating support worker. After six months I gained a paid relief worker role, before obtaining a permanent part-time contract.”

“There is lots of support available to you as a student at Cardiff Met. You will have an assigned tutor who you can meet for personal tutorials, for discussing feedback from assignments and queries about modules, but also talking about how you feel. I was also able to access student services to get support around Dyslexia and to get a diagnostic assessment done. I now receive extra support from the university to help me combat any difficulties. I have found the support invaluable in helping me with my studies.”

“My journey into youth work has been really exciting and rewarding. My studies at Cardiff Met has far exceeded my aims and desires that I set out to pursue. I studied the Introduction to Youth Work and then progressed onto the Foundation Certificate and graduated from the BA (Hons) with a first in my Professional Practice portfolio and two Deans awards. I believe that my success is due to the investments and care of the Youth and Community Work tutors at Cardiff Met. I had the opportunity to learn first-hand from all of my tutors about what it means to be a youth worker and this experience will never leave me.”
