Responsible Machine Learning Micro-Provision Course

Machine learning (ML) is one of the most powerful and transformative technologies of our generation, enabling us to solve complex problems, and maximize productivity. However, ML also comes with potential risks and implications that need to be carefully considered and addressed. How can we ensure that our ML models are ethical, fair, transparent, and accountable? How can we communicate and explain our ML models to different stakeholders and audiences?

This micro provision course will help you acquire skills in the development of ML models using Python while also creating artefacts that can be used to explain the data that has been used to train them, how they have been evaluated before going into production and how they make their predictions using Responsible AI methods. You will also learn how to develop interactive dashboards that can be used to present both the models you have developed and the related artefacts.

Course Content

This course will introduce you to the following concepts:

  • Exploratory Data Analysis: Learn how to explore, visualize, and understand your data.
  • Development of supervised classification (e.g., predicting customer churn) and regression (e.g., predicting house prices), machine learning models.
  • Responsible AI: Learn how to apply principles and practices of responsible machine learning such as fairness, transparency and interpretability and create the artefacts during model development needed to communicate them.
  • How to develop interactive dashboards that can be used to present your models and explain them.

This micro-provision course is designed for learners who have some prior knowledge of Python programming and basic statistics.

Coursework and Assessment

Assessments are designed to consolidate your learning.

You will complete a short assessment equivalent to around 2,000 words. The assignment will require you to develop a machine learning model and present it using an interactive dashboard. You will be introduced to the concepts and materials you need for the assignment over the duration of the course.

How to Apply

You can book your place on the Responsible Machine Learning micro-credential course on the Cardiff Metropolitan University Online Store. Spaces are limited, so we recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.
