Role in the School
Finance and Resources Officer
I work in the Office of the Dean, supporting the School Resources and
Finance Manager in the administration of finance and HR matters for the
I am the first point of call for staff with enquiries about processes
and policies in these areas. I use Agresso and Trent systems, both of
which have their quirks, so sharing Agresso tips with staff is also part
of what I do.
Topics I get involved with include absence recording, casual staff
pay, staff development, purchasing, budget recording, health &
safety (including providing secretariat to the school committee) and HR
I make a large variety of purchases with the school credit card, for
things we don’t have a supplier for. From amazing books to plastic fruit
and many items with intriguing names that I don’t understand and more
mundane things bought to be repurposed in impressively creative ways.
Having run away to Norwich to complete my degree in History of Art
and Architecture, I returned to Cardiff as a poor graduate and
accidently started a 17 year long career in the Transport arm of the UK
This took me all over the UK working in operational customer focused
work at all levels. I’ve managed a large call centre and small
specialist groups, and have been a part of delivering varied services to
Besides becoming encyclopaedic on the organisation after all those
years I have never had an interest in the Transport sector, never
sitting a driving test. I therefore eagerly took voluntary redundancy a
few years ago to come and work in a place like this where I could become
more knowledgeable about topics that really interest me.
Activities and interests: In recent years I been on the administrative team behind the ‘madeinroath‘ October and Spring festivals.
I am a regular contributor to the online magazine Cymru Culture www.cymruculture.co.uk .
Oh and sometimes I make cake.
