Objective 3 - Development and delivery of training with key members of staff at Vietnamese partner HEIs and CMET in AI related departments - Training Group 1

From 21st to 23rd March 2023 six members of staff from Cardiff Metropolitan University (from Global Engagement, Quality Enhancement Directorate and School of Technologies) travelled to Hanoi to deliver the first training session as part of the EQUIP project.

The training was hosted at Vietnam National University and was attended by 17 staff members from AI related departments from Hanoi University of Sciences and Technology (HUST), Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT) and Vietnam National University – International School (VNU-IS).

The training spanned 3 days and covered topics such as the Quality Context, Pedagogical approaches including the flipped classroom, and Project-based assessments. The training programme included theoretical sessions and practical workshop sessions where attendees could discuss their learning and ways this could be applied to their programmes. The training programme gave an opportunity to all participants to share best practice and ideas of how innovative pedagogical approaches could be used practically in the modules and programmes they lead.

The KPI of this training was to train 5 key members of staff in Artificial Intelligence related departments at HCMUT, HUST and VNU equating to a total of 15 staff trained. This objective was exceeded with 17 participants attending the training programme. Of the 17 participants 35% were female, which supported the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion objectives of the project, including the requirement to encourage gender equality in project objectives.

Another KPI which was achieved was to have a 100% response rate for the programme feedback survey. The survey was completed by all 17 participants. The training programme received positive feedback from the participants, with 76.5% of respondents selecting “Strongly Agree” that the sessions were well organised, and 64.7% selecting “Strongly Agree” that the workshop topics were appropriate and worked well. Several participants expressed an interest in attending the next training course, and the feedback provided in the survey will be used when designing the training programme for Objective 4 of the EQUIP project.
