Sport Scholarships
We pride ourselves on the environment and support services we provide to all our student-athletes in our performance programmes to support them to develop. Through our performance programmes, student-athletes have access to dedicated coaches, in-house support services and integrated academic staff providing an on-campus support package for each student worth thousands of pounds.
In addition to this we offer sport scholarships to our most talented student-athletes. We pride ourselves on committing to student athletes through their studies and only offer scholarships to new students (including Cardiff Met Undergraduate progressing to Postgraduate study). At this point, we offer conditional scholarships for the duration of study.

Application process and criteria
We run two approaches to scholarships, depending on the sport.
Performance Programmes
We operate Performance Programmes in Athletics, Women’s Basketball, Wheelchair Basketball, Men’s Cricket, Men’s and Women’s Football, Men’s and Women’s Hockey, Netball, Men’s and Women’s Rugby, Tennis and Triathlon.
We do not operate an application process for our performance programmes. Our coaching and programme staff will identify any potential scholarship students through the recruitment process. Our awards are aligned to the needs of our teams and squads. If you have any questions, please contact the relevant Performance Programme.
Non-Performance Programmes
Criteria for these sports is;
- National and international level - this will be considered appropriately to the sport. Consideration will be given to the pathway and competition structure for the sport, senior and age group representation. For UK based students, consideration will be given to home nation and GB representation in relation to the pathway for the specific sport.
- Where the sport is a BUCS sport, applications will be considered against medal winning/national league standards within the sport.
- Meeting the criteria will not guarantee a scholarship.
If you would like to be considered for a scholarship, please complete the scholarship application form.
Applications will be monitored on a rolling basis but there are also fixed review deadlines for applications for 2026/27 entry. Applicants can expect to hear an initial outcome by the first review deadline after their application. At each deadline, there are three possible outcomes:
- Award – a scholarship is offered at this point.
- Under consideration – where the application doesn’t reach the criteria to be awarded at the current time but will be carried forward to further deadlines and at the latest the final review deadline in July 2026. A final decision will be made at this stage. There is no guarantee a scholarship offer will be made.
- Reject – the application is rejected and will not be considered further.
The review deadlines for 2026 entry are:
- 20 December 2025
- 23 January 2026
- 17 April 2026
- 22 May 2026
- 31 July 2026
