With a strategy intended to drive up the standard of the University's best research activity, Cardiff Metropolitan University made three focused submissions. The summary quality profile for the University as reported in the Times Higher Education is below:

For each Unit of Assessment (UoA) there is an overall quality profile. This is tabulated with data from the results of the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2008. It is not a 'like-for-like' comparison because the criteria for compiling the overall profiles have changed, but it does show the significant progress that has been made.

UoA 26 - Sport and Exercise Sciences, Leisure and Tourism

A joint submission was made between the Cardiff School of Sport (CSS), the Welsh Centre for Tourism Research (WCTR) in the Cardiff School of Management and the School of Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences at Bangor University. Submitted under the auspices of the Institute for Research Excellence in Sport and Exercise, the overall quality profile is below.

UoA 34 - Art and Design, History, Practice and Theory

Building on the success of a joint submission to RAE 2008, the Wales Institute for Research in Art and Design (WIRAD) made a collaborative submission between the Cardiff School of Art and Design, the National Centre for Product Design & Development Research, the University of South Wales and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David.
