PDR is a world-leading design consultancy and applied research institute focusing on the effective use of design as a tool for innovation in both the private and public sectors.
Working with recognised brands and influential organisations, the PDR consultancy team develop solutions in products, services and solutions.
PDR collaborates with other academic partners, industry, the public sector and governments to examine and improve product and service design policy, management and practice. It also leads and collaborates on projects funded by AHRC and other UKRI programmes, various European Commission programmes, charities, industry and government.
Research groups
User Centred Design Research (UCDR)
User Centred Design Research work encompasses both academic research and international consultancy. It partners with other major universities in the UK, Europe and across the world, as well as with large and small companies, public sector bodies and governments.
Surgical and Prosthetic Design
Surgical and Prosthetic Design is a globally-recognised research group that advances personalised healthcare through design and technologies. For over 20 years, the group has led innovative research, provided commercial services and offered educational courses on ISO:13485-compliant custom medical device design.
Design & Innovation Policy
Design Policy Research takes a macro view of design, looking at national and regional innovation ecosystems and policies to create an environment that is conducive to the application of design. It has been active in advising national, regional and local governments throughout Europe.
Ecodesign
The Ecodesign group works with businesses, industry groups, academia, educators and policy makers on a national and international level through collaborative ecodesign projects. It’s at the forefront of ecodesign research and knowledge, and supports organisations of all kinds to improve their environmental performance.
