Transforming the life quality of people with advanced dementia – and their carers – with a HUG™

Prof. Cathy Treadaway, Dr Jac Fennell, Prof. Andrew Walters and Aidan Taylor

A £424k AHRC-funded research project resulted in the HUG™, an artefact that improves the life quality of people with advanced dementia. A six-month £185K Welsh Government funded trial showed 87% improved participant wellbeing. HUG™ is now prescribed on the NHS, secured the UK Tech4Good Winner of Winners’ award 2020 and, through £105K capital investment from sources such as UK Alzheimer’s Society, a spin-out company was launched to meet national and international demand from Health Boards, care homes and the general public.
