Overview

Dr Emily Abbinett is a Senior Lecturer in Education and Additional Learning Needs (ALN) at the Cardiff School of Education and Social Policy, Cardiff Metropolitan University. She joined Cardiff Met in 2010 as a Research Assistant, later working as an Associate Tutor before securing a permanent Lectureship in 2013. She is currently Programme Director for the BSc (Hons) Education, Psychology and SEN, overseeing course delivery and student development. Alongside her undergraduate programme, Emily supports Master’s and Doctoral students with their dissertations, guiding research design, methodology, and applied practice.

Emily’s research focuses on supporting learners with ALN and promoting inclusive education, particularly during key educational transitions. She is co-chair of the Additional Learning Needs, Disability and Inclusion Research Network (ADIRN) and a member of the Pontio‑ETAL Research Group, contributing to research that informs inclusive practice and policy. Her publications explore the experiences of students with ALN in further and higher education, as well as professional development for educators supporting diverse learners.
