Overview
Dr Joann Warner is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education and Social Policy. A Chartered Psychologist and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, she teaches psychology across programmes within the School.
Joann has worked at Cardiff Metropolitan University since 2008, delivering teaching in psychology, policy, and psychobiology across the institution. She co-authored the School’s British Psychological Society accredited MSc Psychology in Education.
Her PhD was multidisciplinary, examining how psychological stress and lifestyle factors influence ageing, measured through oxidative DNA damage and telomere shortening. She presented this research at an international conference on biological techniques in ageing. Joann is experienced in laboratory research in biomedical sciences as well as in quantitative and qualitative psychological methodologies.
She has completed several projects commissioned by the Welsh Government, including training materials published on national platforms addressing mental health, wellbeing, and adverse childhood experiences. Joann is currently commissioned by the NHS to lead research on the barriers faced by care leavers entering employment. Her ongoing research also examines oppressive practices within the family courts.
