Overview
Dr Mohamed Yousif is a Cybersecurity Lecturer at Cardiff Metropolitan University, specialising in network security, ethical hacking, digital forensics, and cryptography. With extensive experience teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, he leads modules including Ethical Hacking, Attacks and Forensics, Information Security, Threats and Attacks, and Networks and Communications. His approach combines research-informed teaching with hands-on laboratory practice, equipping students with both strong theoretical foundations and industry-relevant technical skills.
Dr Yousif’s research centres on cybersecurity, computer networks, the Internet of Things (IoT), and intrusion detection and prevention systems. His doctoral work developed a standardised evaluation framework for intrusion detection and prevention in IoT environments, contributing to improved benchmarking and validation within network defence research. He has published internationally on IoT security, privacy, and cyber resilience, advancing understanding of emerging threats in connected systems.
An Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) and a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Dr Yousif integrates professional standards and technical certification into his academic practice. He is committed to fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, strengthening links between academia and industry, and preparing graduates to address evolving cybersecurity challenges in complex digital infrastructures.
