Overview
Dr Nina Jones is Programme Director for the BA (Hons) Media and Communications and MA Specialist Journalism programmes in the School of Education and Social Policy. She teaches across areas exploring the media’s influence on identity, society and culture, with a particular focus on television and digital media. At master’s level, she leads the Critical Perspectives in Journalism module.
Nina’s research focuses on the representation of Wales and Welsh identity in media production and output. Her PhD examined the BBC’s impact on television drama production in Wales and Scotland (2003–2013), exploring how policy and institutional practices shape national and regional representation. She is currently collaborating with colleagues at Cardiff Metropolitan and Wrexham University on a project investigating the ‘Hollywood takeover’ of Wrexham AFC, the Welcome to Wrexham documentary, and its impact upon on Welsh identity, language and culture.
Nina is a member of the Centre for International Research on Interactive Technologies in Teaching and Learning (CIRITTL), where she hopes to develop her research into the use and impact of digital media in education. She is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a teaching advisor, and a staff representative on the School’s Portfolio Development Group. As part of Cardiff Met’s Adobe Creative Campus initiative, she actively integrates Adobe tools into the Media and Communications curriculum to enhance students’ digital skills and future employability.
