Learning support

If you are a current student, go to MetCentral to learn more about our services,

About us

We help students overcome barriers to their learning through:

  • 1-1 specialist tutor and mentor appointments
  • resources
  • workshops
  • tailored learning materials
For some students these barriers can be a specific learning difficulty such as dyslexia or a disability, for others challenges can be situational or temporary, for example:

  • adjusting to university study
  • catching up on assignments after being ill
  • struggling to fit everything in around work, childcare or other commitments.

All can end up affecting how information is processed, concentration or understanding leaving students feeling overwhelmed and stressed.

We aim to help students develop the skills and strategies needed to overcome these challenges and more.

Disabled Student Allowance (DSA)

Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) is support to cover the study-related costs you have because of a mental health problem, long term illness or any other disability. It is paid for by your funding body such as Student Finance England, Student Finance Wales or NHS Student Awards.

This can be on its own or in addition to any student finance you get.

As part of the application process you will be asked to attend a Needs Assessment where you can discuss the impact of your disability and what support would be helpful. This can include equipment, software, 1-1 support and travel costs.

We have our own Assessment Centre at Cardiff Met.
