Teaching

Gayle has been teaching on the BSc (Hons) Environmental Health degree for 7 years and during this time has become a fellow of the Higher Education Academy by undertaking a post graduate certificate in teaching for higher education.  Gayle has recently engaged on a Higher Education Academy teaching excellence programme and leadership development course.  She also delivers teaching on the MSc in Occupational Health Safety and Wellbeing, MSc Applied Public Health and BSc Public Health.

Her main teaching areas of interest are:

  • Environmental Protection
  • Health Impact Assessment
  • Health Protection

Gayle has also had the opportunity to deliver teaching sessions in Institutions both in Europe and Africa and continues to foster these partnerships.  She is currently leading a teaching and training exchange partnership with Makarere University in Uganda with ERASMUS+ funding secured for 2016/17/ and 2018/19.

Research

Gayle studied Environmental Health at the University of Wales Institute Cardiff (now Cardiff Metropolitan University before working for several years in the public sector dealing with Environmental Protection related issues including nuisance investigation, air quality, environmental health policy and strategy, as well as specialising in noise control and environmental acoustics.  Gayle then moved into a broader public health role as manager of a strategic public health partnership.  She holds a Master in Public Health from Cardiff University and post graduate certificate in Acoustics and noise control engineering. During her time in practice, Gayle developed several research interests and is currently undertaking a PhD at Cardiff Metropolitan University.  In addition to this Gayle is very keen to develop her pedagogic research with particular interest in assessment literacy and problem based enquiry.
