Dr Emmet McLoughlin is the Programme Director for BA (Hons) International Tourism Management and Lecturer in Tourism and Events Management at Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Teaching

Dr McLoughlin teaches a wide range of modules across the department including the following;-

  • Developing and Managing Destinations
  • Research Methods (undergrad and postgrad)
  • Tourism for a Small Planet
  • Global Sporting Events

He also supervises several dissertation students across all levels, from undergraduate, to post graduate level through to the doctoral programmes.

Research

Dr McLoughlin’s research interests include data driven approaches to sustainability, indicators of sustainability and sustainable planning for tourism and events. He continues to publish in wide variety of academic journals, examining issues such as tourism planning approaches, evidence informed planning for tourism and events, perceptions of sustainable tourism and the identification of sustainability skills gaps.

Current research projects are focused on examining data driven approaches to hospitality management, addressing strategic and operational challenges in hospitality and events, the use of accessible technology in tourism settings, event management considerations post COVID 19 and place based sustainable development and regeneration in Wales.
