Overview

Alun Carter is a Lecturer in Sport Performance Analysis. He has extensive applied experience in the field of Performance Analysis, working with international hockey and rugby union teams from 1995 to 2007. He gained further experience as Team Manager of a Premiership Rugby Team from 2008-2013. These experiences underpin his role in supporting the work-based learning elements of the Undergraduate course at Cardiff Met Sport.

Alun was involved as a researcher in the CPA based at UWIC in the 90's after completing a BA Hons degree in Sport and Human Movement Studies.

A sporting career in rugby union took in spells at Pontypool R.F.C, S.O. Millau, Newport R.F.C and U.W.I.C. During this time Alun gained 2 caps for Wales, played for the British Police, Barbarians and led the Welsh Students.

Research / Publication

A joint analysis of the 1995RWC together with Dr. Keith Lyons and Dr. Gareth Potter, led to the publication of data in the RWC Kickoff magazine issue 24. Alun's experiences as an analyst working closely with coaches in the Welsh Rugby Union team environment provided the framework for a book which examined the dynamics between players and coaches in a High Performance setting.
