Dan Martin

​Lecturer in Sports Rehabilitation

Dan is a lecturer in Sports Rehabilitation having worked as a Chartered Physiotherapist across a variety of sports and health environments. Dan has a wealth of experience working in professional sports as a Head Physiotherapist of over 12 years in Rugby Union and Rugby League (Widnes Vikings, Dragons and Bristol Bears). More recently Dan has had consultancy roles with the FAW, Glamorgan Cricket, Racing Club Narbonne Mediterranean, and World Athletics and currently works for the Sports Injury Physio online team. Before arriving at Cardiff Metropolitan University, Dan worked at the University of Wales Trinity St David for 7 years, achieving his PGCE and becoming a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.


Research

In 2005, I became a Pilates Instructor and since, have had a keen interest in the subject of posture. In 2015, I finished my Master’s in Sports Physiotherapy at the University of Bath and looked at the role of body orthotics on elite rugby players’ posture. I have recently started a Doctoral study in objective postural assessment to provide healthcare professionals with a more accurate and useable method as part of everyday clinical practice.


Teaching

I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I am also module leader for level Injury Pathology and Rehabilitation module and I teach across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate modules.

I have worked for numerous professional sporting organisations across the United Kingdom – WRU, FAW, Widnes Vikings, Newport Gwent Dragons, Bristol Bears, RCNM, Glamorgan Cricket.

I currently work for a group of online Sports Physiotherapists (Sports-Physio-Online) on a part-time basis.
