Getting around Cardiff

Getting around Cardiff:

Walk: Walking to campus is a free, easy and quick way to get from the Halls of Residence, which are located in close proximity to our campuses. From halls such as Plas Gwyn, Now Students North Court or Unite Students Blackweir Lodge the walk is no longer than 30 minutes. Depending on where you choose to live, we recommend using Google Maps to plan your route accordingly and to buddy up with some of your household to match timetables and walk together.

Cycle: Cardiff is a great city for cycling and Cardiff Met won the Most Cycle Friendly Business award at the 2019 Cardiff Cycling Awards. There are dry cycle stores which you can access with your MetCard, maintenance stands, tools, lockers, showers and even special cycle paths available on and around our campuses. Llandaff has dedicated facilities that are situated at the rear of the School of Art & Design. At Cyncoed, facilities are located at the Tennis Centre.

Want to cycle around Cardiff but don't have a bike yet? For a number of years Cardiff Met has been working with Cardiff Cycle Workshop, a non-for-profit organisation to offer students best deals on refurbished bikes. The bikes prices start at £70 for adults and come with a warranty. To find out more we encourage to visit their website. The university also offers free monthly bike maintenance with Dr. Bike and security marking can be provided at the same event by the South Wales police. You can find the next event dates on "What's Happening" on your MetCentral portal.

Bus: The M1 service provides the connection between Llandaff and Cyncoed campus and has various pick-up spots on its route, such as Whitchurch and Cathays. Catch the 52 service to get onto the Cyncoed Campus. It drops off in front of the main building and runs hourly throughout the day, with additional departures every 30 minutes during peak times.

Catch the 1 service or 2 service that stop immediately outside Llandaff Campus or the 24, 25, 62, 63, which stop a few minutes’ walk away at either Howells School or Llandaff Village.

Taxi/Uber: Another option is to catch a taxi or an Uber to your campus and share the cost among your household. An Uber from Roath/Cathays to Llandaff Campus or Cyncoed Campus is about £8 each way.

The Students’ Union have teamed up with Veezu Taxis to ensure safe transport home is always available, even if you don’t have money for a fare home on you. By phoning 029 2033 3333 , quoting ‘Cardiff Metropolitan University Safe Taxi Scheme’, and having a valid student card as proof of ID, a vehicle will be sent to you as a matter of priority between the hours of 10pm and 6am to take you home.

Be mindful that this service is for emergencies only. The service is available 24 hours a day and has a maximum allowance of £20 and four students to travel. Cardiff Met SU will guarantee the payment for you, and you can settle up from there.
