Cardiff Metropolitan University and the Cardiff Metropolitan University Students' Union have a long-standing commitment to Fairtrade, supporting and selling Fairtrade products since 2003 and achieving accreditation in 2007.

We're a 2-Star Fairtrade University

We are extremely pleased to say that Cardiff Met has achieved a 2-star 'Fairtrade University' Award for 2026, our highest score to date. This significant achievement reflects the hard work and collaboration of colleagues and students across the University.

Our next Fairtrade assessment will take place in 2028 and we're already looking forward to the possibilities of the next two years.

Fairtrade Annual Report 2025-2026

Cardiff Met's Fairtrade Annual Progress Report for 2025/2026 encompasses all aspects of Fairtrade at Cardiff Met, from campaigning to strategy, and even including impact.

SMART Action Plan

Our SMART Action Plan includes operational considerations such as procurement and catering, campaigning and influence, engagement and communications, and evaluation of activities.

Since 2024, all University-branded clothing sold on campus, at graduation, or via our online store, is Fairtrade accredited. Clothing is printed in-house at our Llandaff Studio.

Fairtrade Food on Campus

Cardiff Met prioritises Fairtrade sourcing across catering outlets and hospitality services. Fairtrade tea and coffee are serves as standard in university hospitality, including conferences and events hosted on campus. Additionally, outlets maintain stock of Fairtrade products across key categories, including tea, coffee, juice, sugar, chocolate, fruit, and more.

Fairtrade Highlights

Each year, we deliver a range of events to raise awareness of Fairtrade and to provide opportunities for out students. 2025/26 was a strong year for student involvement through Fairtrade campaigns and research projects, including storytelling events and awareness initiatives.
