Cardiff Met U19s take on Europe in UEFA Youth League

14 September 2026

Cardiff Met men’s U19s football team take their first steps on the European football stage when make they make their UEFA Youth League debut against Luxembourg side FC UNA Strassen.

A group of young men huddled together on a football pitch. They are wearing maroon shirts and dark blue shorts.

They earned their place in the competition after a standout 2025/26 season, winning the National Academi Development League South title before sealing qualification with a dramatic 2-1 play-off win over Connah’s Quay Nomads. A 96th-minute winner from Charlie Keough secured their place on the European stage.

Now, the squad gets the chance to test itself against opposition from outside Wales. Cardiff Met will host the first leg at Cyncoed campus stadium on Wednesday, 16 September (KO 7.45pm), before travelling to Luxembourg for the return fixture on Wednesday, 14 October.

Dr Chris Baker, Director of Football System, Cardiff Met Sport said: “For all but one of the group, this will be their first experience of European football, so there is naturally a huge amount of excitement around the squad. But we also want them to embrace the challenge rather than simply the occasion.

“To have European football under the lights at Cyncoed and to see our young players walking out representing their Club and country will be a very special moment.”

Tickets are now on sale for the home fixture, with adult tickets priced at £5 and concessions at £3.
