Profile

I joined Cardiff Metropolitan University as Senior Lecturer in Science Education in September 2003 having previously taught in many local English and Welsh medium secondary schools as biology/science teacher and Head of Biology.  I graduated with a BSc in Zoology from University of Wales Aberystwyth in 1989 and immediately completed a PGCE in Secondary Biology with Science at University of Wales, College Cardiff in 1989-90.  By 2011 I completed my Master's in Education degree at University Wales Institute Cardiff.

I currently work on both PGCE Primary and Secondary programmes as well as the MAEd. Previously I also worked extensively on the BA Education with QTS. I work bilingually and work through my mother tongue whenever possible, for example I deliver the Welsh medium primary science sessions as well supporting students placed in Welsh medium schools.  I have supervised and assessed mathematics and science secondary trainees on the Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP) since 2009.  I became Programme Leader for the three PGCE Secondary Science pathways in September 2013 and in September 2014 I started to supervised MAEd dissertations.

In 2008-9 I worked collegially with colleagues from Swansea Metropolitan and Trinity Carmarthen on a funded research project for Welsh Educational Research Network (WERN/ESRC). I have worked on many enterprise initiatives, including the generation of online training material for Welsh Government (PISA): a Welsh medium Mentor training DVD; Teacher observation and feedback DVD for Estyn training as well as delivering DYNAMO (Entrepreneurship) Inset training to primary teachers across south Wales.
