Profile

I am a Technician Demonstrator of technologies in expressive arts.

Principally, these are music technology and technical theatre.

I provide support to Cardiff School of Education and Social Policy with a remit that includes discrete ICT, health & safety, audio-visual systems and management of resources.

My subject specialisms are studio and live production technologies. These include sound design, sound reinforcement, recording/tracking & mixing, analogue & digital audio manipulation and sequencing. I also practice and tutor lighting design.

I demonstrate to students enrolled on:

PGCE Secondary Education-Music, PGCE Secondary Education-Drama and undergraduate drama programmes in CSESP.

Specific modules include:

Music Technology, Theatre Practitioners, Directing Approaches, Drama Perspectives and a dissertation equivalent Performance Project.

I am a workplace representative for members of the Cardiff Met branch of Unison, the public service trade union.

Since 1993, I've worked as a freelance sound technician. My clients comprise professional musicians in the USA & Europe and music venues throughout Cardiff. Primarily, between '93 and 2004, this constituted international concert tour, radio and television work. Subsequent to joining Cardiff Met in 2003, I continue to engineer in recording studios for musicians and international clients.

Previously, I have been employed as Studio Manager at Radio Glamorgan and as a mechanic at a classic car restoration garage. I was awarded BSc. Astrophysics by Cardiff University in 1993. I am a guitarist, a collector & DJ of rockabilly and rhythm 'n' blues 45s, a restorer of vintage audio equipment and a restorer of classic cars.
