My role at the ZERO2FIVE Food Industry Centre

I am a ZERO2FIVE Food Industry Centre (FIC) Food Technologist, supporting Welsh food and drink manufacturing companies in the development and implementation of their Quality Management Systems and Food Safety Plans (HACCP), as well as mentoring graduates employed on the KITE programme.  I do this through carrying out internal audits, reviewing existing Quality Management Systems, helping companies prepare for third party audits, writing HACCP plans, supporting New Product Development, carrying out chemical analysis of products, advising on shelf life determination and directing on legal labelling compliance.

Previous Experience

2003 – 2008 New Product Development Technologist – Sunjuice Limited

I worked as a New Product Development technologist developing juices and smoothies for major UK retailors.  I managed the New Product Development process from retail or brief through to product launch.

Sainsbury's Probiotic Orange Juice – Working in conjunction with Christian Hansen, I managed the launch of the first probiotic juice on the market in the UK which won the World Innovation Award in 2005.

2001 – 2003 Teaching Company Scheme Associate/Quality Manager – Dare Valley Poultry (Cargill Integra Wales)

Initially I was on a graduate scheme in partnership with Cardiff Met (was University of Wales Institute, Cardiff) and then I was employed by the company. I worked on a number of small projects to gain experience within the production environment as well as gaining technical and quality experience.  Working alongside the Technical Manager, I assisted with the company review and upgrade of the Quality Management System and HACCP to be in line with the British Retail Consortium Standard (BRC) issue 4.
