Establish a network for Bangladeshi students at Cardiff Met

School/Directorate: Cardiff School of Management

Key theme: Links directly to cultural diversity and inclusion; Support the Global element of the Cardiff Met EDGE developing students as global citizens.

Impact and Achievements:

The Project was initiated with the thought of a networking hub meant for students ethnically originated from Bangladesh.

There are about 350 students currently studying in Cardiff Met University who are originally from Bangladesh. This was the first get together where some of these students came and exchanged ideas, got to know each other on the day. An Iftar session was organised since it was a Ramadan day and most of the students and the staff members were fasting, however turn out was still successful.

Seven academic staff members originally from Bangladesh also took part in this event and provided a great opportunity for some of the students to meet the staff members and discuss their career aspiration and academic opportunities such as studying towards a PhD. It was also a suitable platform to discuss any personal circumstances - in their own language.

Some of the students/staff members brought their families, which opened the initiative of the Bangladesh network to the wider community and engage in effective networking.
