Staff Overview

Dr Jun Zhang is the Programme Director for MSc International Business Management and Senior Lecturer in Strategic Management. Previously, she has designed, developed and led Master’s and undergraduate programmes in International Business.

Jun has many years’ experience in lecturing in the Higher Education sector in the UK. Her teaching expertise is in international business management with special research interests focused on China and the UK. This has included conducting empirical research in business ethics in China and investigating the ethical challenges faced by British multi-national corporations when operating in China. In addition to university teaching and research, Jun is very keen to engage with businesses for collaborative work which can benefit both business and the local community.

Jun’s knowledge of cross-cultural management has helped British expatriate managers avoid culture shock at pre-transferral stage prior to their movement to China. She is keen to help people from China and the UK to understand each other's cultures, values and customs for the purpose of successfully carrying out business and working together.

Jun combines industrial experience as well as academic knowledge in her teaching to connect students with the real business world. Previously, Jun worked in Shanghai for many years as a senior executive responsible for managing key commercial accounts for a major Chinese company. Jun has varied interests and has received an award for her efforts towards equality and diversity. Jun loves global cuisine, as she believes that it’s at the heart of understanding culture.

Teaching

Jun provides a high-quality contribution to undergraduate, postgraduate and professional programmes. She has delivered and led modules for business management programmes across levels 4 to 7. Undergraduate modules which she has been involved with include Strategic Management, Managing International Business, Cultural Issues in Management, Cultural Issues in International Marketing, The Context of International Business, Managing Corporate Responsibility, and Research Methods. She has also lectured MSc International Business, MBA and DBA modules. Other responsibilities include dissertation supervision for undergraduate students, Master’s, PhD and DBA. Jun has also been reviewer for the progress approval of research students, and internal examiner for PhD and DBA.

Business Conference:

The United Nations Global Compact Summit, Shanghai, China, 31 Nov – 01 Dec 2005. The summit was the first of its kind in China for a highest-level international business conference discussing corporate responsibility. The summit was organised by the United Nations. There were approximately 600 business executives, policy makers and thought leaders from around the world.

Other Projects and activities

Jun has organised and led live international business projects, engaging students with companies such as Renishaw, Prima Dental and Kohler Mira. She has also organised and led international field trips to mainland China and Hong Kong where students visited companies such Lenovo, HSBC, as well as invitation to the British Chamber of Commerce.

External Links

Jun has led, developed and worked collaboratively with partners in the UK, China, Vietnam and Myanmar to review programmes and liaise recruitment. She maintains close relationships with industry, chamber of commerce, Growth Hub, and accreditation bodies such as the CMI. She regularly invites business leaders to speak in her modules.
