Professor Rachael Langford begins new role as Vice-Chancellor

Professor Rachael Langford FRSA has officially started in her new post as President and Vice-Chancellor of Cardiff Metropolitan University today (Thursday 1st February 2024).

Professor Langford’s appointment follows two years as Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Cardiff Met and she brings to the role a wealth of experience in effective academic leadership across teaching, research, global engagement and civic mission.

Professor Langford said: “I’m honoured and excited to be taking up this role at Cardiff Metropolitan University, a university which has a significant track record of success in teaching, research and civic activity that makes a real-world difference. I am very much looking forward to working with staff, students, and the University’s governing body to deliver our ambitious strategy supporting students’ and communities’ long-term success.

“This is a challenging period for all higher education institutions, but I know how committed and able our colleagues and students are. Working in partnership with key stakeholders locally, nationally and globally, we will continue to develop education and research that fully engages students and communities, equipping people life-long with the knowledge and resources needed to succeed in our era of multi-faceted social, economic and environmental challenges.”

Prior to joining Cardiff Met in 2021, Professor Langford was Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Oxford Brookes University, and prior to this, Head of the School of Modern Languages at Cardiff University.
