Biomechanics Department
The Sport and Exercise Biomechanics laboratory, located National Indoor Athletics Centre, offers a cutting-edge research environment equipped with state-of-the-art technology. Our recently updated facility now boasts a dedicated lab space, two data collection areas, and a hybrid analysis suite, creating an exciting hive for research and sport science support.
The biomechanics department possesses a suite of advanced tools to support the broad spectrum of research conducted at Cardiff Metropolitan University. We have high-speed cameras, marker-based motion capture and a cutting edge marker-less motion capture system. These systems can be integrated with our in-ground Kistler force plates, allowing for precise and comprehensive biomechanical analysis.
Our lab has recently expanded its capabilities to include wireless Electromyography (EMG) systems, enabling real-time muscle activity monitoring. We've also integrated wearable force sensors for more portable and dynamic data collection. Additionally, our facility is now equipped with Isokinetic dynamometry, offering precise measurement of joint and muscle performance.
What truly sets us apart is our bespoke sprint analysis tools, meticulously designed to cater to the specific needs of word leading athletes and researchers. These specialised tools provide in-depth insights into sprint mechanics and performance.
With expert academic and technical staff our lab stands at the forefront of biomechanical research, offering an exceptional environment for researchers, athletes, and sports enthusiasts alike to explore and optimise human performance.
