Our specialist sport and academic facilities at the Cyncoed campus will enable you to gain practical experiences that prepare you for your future career.

Performance Analysis Lab

Performance Analysis LabThe world-leading Performance Analysis facility consists of 3 computer labs that are stocked with an array of commercially available PC and Mac systems, coupled with powerful video editing tools. The Cyncoed campus also has a growing outdoor IP camera network to facilitate powerful video capture processes.

Physiology Lab

Physiology LabThe Sport Physiology Labs are accredited by the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES). We have two laboratories with a wide range of equipment for sport-specific assessment, including running, cycling, swimming and rowing. These contain a range of equipment that is used to enhance student learning and allow for hands-on experience with specialist sports science equipment.

Biomechanics Lab

BiomechanicsSport and Exercise Biomechanics is housed in the National Indoor Athletics Centre, with a dedicated lab space, two data collection areas within the athletics area, an analysis suite and a workshop. Hardware includes Vicon and Codamotion automatic motion capture systems, high speed cameras and Kistler force plates.

Strength and Power Gym

Strength & Power GymThe School’s Strength and Power Gym opened in 2015 and is located on the ground floor of the National Indoor Athletics Centre (NIAC). It has 14 weightlifting platforms with integrated squat racks, allowing students to learn a range of key lifts and develop their knowledge of the coaching process.

Rehab and Conditioning Gym

Rehab & Conditioning GymSituated above the Strength and Power gym is the Conditioning and Rehabilitation gym. One half of this area is equipped for upper body strength development with four weightlifting benches and racks, dumbbell benches, prone pull benches and a range of dumbbells. The other half provides an open space area for warmups and rehabilitation practical lectures.

Massage Teaching Room

Massage Teaching RoomThe School’s Sports Massage teaching room is situated on the first floor of the National Indoor Athletics Centre (NIAC). The room is fully equipped to teach both practical and theoretical aspects of sports massage, providing an excellent learning and teaching environment.

Sport Broadcast and Media Suite

Sport Broadcast & Media SuiteThe facility features a sound-proofed TV studio with lights, cameras, green screen and a virtual set, a TV gallery with a TriCaster operating system and a master edit station, and a sound-proofed self-operated radio studio equipped with podcast / audio recording equipment.

Physiology Research Lab

Research Lab – PhysiologyThe labs support a wide range of staff and student research activity. Final year undergraduate students can gain experience with more advanced exercise physiology equipment during independent research dissertation projects. There are also opportunities to be involved in ongoing postgraduate and staff research projects. Our most specialised equipment is in the research laboratory for use by doctoral students and staff members.

SCRAM Research Lab

Research Lab – SCRAMThe SCRAM Research Laboratory enables in-depth analysis of athletic performance. The facility enables researchers and practitioners alike to determine an athlete’s level of performance for a range of strength and power qualities. It also allows practitioners to assess muscular performance within a rehabilitative setting.
