Overview
Haf Hayes is a Senior Lecturer in Teacher Education and Professional Learning (Welsh Medium) in the School of Education and Social Policy. She joined the University following a career of over 30 years in primary education in south-east Wales.
She graduated with a BA from Bangor University and an MA from Aberystwyth University, before completing her Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) at Aberystwyth University in 1992. Her academic background and extensive experience in schools have informed her commitment to supporting confident, reflective and effective teachers.
Haf is a member of the BA Primary Education and QTS, BA Addysg Gynradd a SAC and PGCE Primary programme teams, contributing to the teaching, assessment and development of the curriculum. She is also a Welsh tutor, supporting prospective teachers to develop their Welsh language skills and confidence in using Welsh in their professional practice. Haf established and conducts the Welsh Choir at Cardiff Metropolitan University.
She has particular expertise in teaching primary science. In 2019, Haf was awarded the Primary Science Teacher Award, presented by the Primary Science Teaching Trust (PSTT) in recognition of her contribution to science education.
Her current research interests stem from her involvement with Tŷ Froebel's research projects, focusing on the relationship between Froebel's pedagogy and the principles of Curriculum for Wales. Haf also coordinates international partnership projects to enhance comparative education research on the ITE programmes. Through her teaching, research and partnership work, she is committed to promoting the highest quality teacher education and supporting the development of the Welsh-medium education workforce in Wales.
