Senior Lecturer PGCE Secondary History
Cardiff School of Education & Social Policy

Overview

I studied history at Swansea University specialising in crime and society, the history of Wales and the European witch hunt of the early seventeenth century. I received my PGCE from Swansea University and my Masters in Educational Practice from Cardiff Metropolitan University. I have spent 23 years as a Head of History in secondary schools in three Welsh local authorities. I have held a number of additional roles in schools including Head of Year, Literacy Co-ordinator and School Governor. I have also worked for local authorities running literacy intervention programmes, setting up virtual learning environments, training school support staff and disseminating good practice. I work as both a GCSE and A Level examiner for a number of examination boards and have published a number of online resources. I have been involved in training teachers from a variety of different teacher training institutions as Mentor and Senior Mentor since 1992. I am particularly interested in the development of pedagogical strategies to enhance pupil learning and have led a number of HLF funded programmes to engage reluctant learners. I am keen to maintain my role as a classroom practitioner and still teach across Key Stage Three, Four and Five in an 11-18 comprehensive school.
