Cardiff Met Employability Award

Grow your skills. Build your experience. Shape your future.

At Cardiff Metropolitan University, your university experience is about more than earning a degree. It’s about developing the skills, experience and confidence to take your next step.

The Cardiff Met Employability Award helps you recognise and develop your employability throughout your time at Cardiff Met, making the most of opportunities to prepare for your future career.

A journey that grows with you

Open to all undergraduate and postgraduate students, whether you study full-time or part-time, the Award can be completed at your own pace, from registration through to graduation. You may even find that experiences you’re already involved in count towards your Award.

From your studies and work-based learning to volunteering, part-time work, placements, entrepreneurship, clubs and societies, there are plenty of opportunities to build skills and experience that support your future.

Three levels. One journey of development.

The Award has three levels – Bronze, Silver and Gold – each building on the last to help you progress throughout your university journey.

You’ll engage with Shape Your Future, Cardiff Met’s bespoke employability skills development framework, which focuses on eight key skills valued by employers: Leadership, Communication, Motivation, Adaptability, Digital Skills, Problem Solving, Personal Branding and Career Management.

As you progress, you’ll develop a professional profile and reflect on work-related experiences, positions of responsibility and activities linked to Cardiff Met’s values and behaviours.

More than an Award

The Award is an opportunity to recognise the skills and experiences you’re gaining and become more confident in communicating your strengths.

Whether you’re working in a team, completing a placement, volunteering, presenting in class or running a society, you’re developing valuable skills that can help you stand out to employers.

By reflecting on what you’ve learned and how you can apply it, you’ll build evidence to draw on when writing job applications, preparing for interviews and developing your professional profile.

You’ll also receive digital recognition for each level you achieve, with your achievement recorded in your Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR).

Your career journey starts at Cardiff Met

You don’t need to have your future career mapped out before you start university. The Employability Award gives you a structured way to explore your strengths, try new experiences and build confidence as you progress.

Alongside the Award, Cardiff Met’s Careers Service offers advice, resources, events and opportunities to help you explore career options and prepare for the world of work.

Your degree is just one part of your university experience. Make the most of the opportunities available at Cardiff Met to develop your skills, build your experience and shape your future.
