Mica Moore’s sporting journey is one of resilience and reinvention. Originally a sprinter, she represented Wales at the 2014 Commonwealth Games before transitioning to bobsleigh and competing for Team GB in the 2018 Winter Olympics. Mica was selected to represent Jamaica in the 2026 Winter Games and was the Jamaican flag bearer in the opening ceremony. She finished 14th in the monobob and afterwards posted on LinkedIn: “This journey for me was a journey in not giving up! I’m so proud to have represented my heritage and shown that Jamaica are a force on the world stage not to be played with! No medals right now but this finish feels like a medal to me. And for anyone out there refusing to give up on a dream, don’t give up!”

Mica completed a BSc in Education and Sport and an MSc in Sport Broadcasting, and she continues to train at the National Indoor Athletics Centre on our Cyncoed campus.

Adelé Nicoll has firmly established herself as one of Wales’ leading field athletes. Known for her explosive power and technical consistency, she has won multiple Welsh Athletics Championships event, and was the UK shot put champion in 2022, 2023 and 2025. Adelé has earned international honours representing both Wales and Great Britain at shot put. She graduated with a BSc Sport and Exercise Science and graduated  from Cardiff Met in 2019.

In addition to her achievements in athletics, Adelé has just competed in the bobsleigh for Team GB at the Winter Olympics, becoming the first British female to complete in the monobob in the Winter Games, as well as being the pilot in the two-woman bobsleigh. This is despite suffering a serious injury at the start of the season. She told the BBC: “Starting the season off with injury is never how anyone wants to start off their Olympic campaign, but I’m really proud of how we pulled through that. The Olympic Games has given tough lessons and magical moments but I’m grateful for it all.”

Inspiring the Next Generation

International Women’s Day is a celebration of progress, empowerment and possibility. Mica Moore and Adelé Nicoll exemplify these values through their achievements, leadership and resilience.

As role models within the Cardiff Met community, they can continue to inspire future generations of women in sport, showing that with opportunity, support and determination, boundaries can be redefined.

We are proud to celebrate Mica and Adele — not only for what they have achieved on the world stage, but for the example they set every day.
