Cardiff Met Circular Economy team helps nature project access government funding
A new project, Nature Protects, which turns algae into fertiliser, has accessed Welsh Government funding with support from the award-winning Circular Economy Innovation Communities (CEIC) project at Cardiff Met.
The CEIC team accessed the Welsh Government-funded ‘New to the Circular Economy’ Fund (N2CE Fund) to conduct a feasibility study into turning leftover material from microalgae into a useful liquid fertiliser.
Dr Gary Walpole, Director of CEIC, said: “We co-created, with Welsh Government, a seed-corn fund for organisations looking to develop circular economy innovation projects. The pilot New to Circular Economy fund offered organisations up to £10,000 in grants as part of a £15,000 scoping or feasibility phase of a new product or service. CEIC Wales supported 77 organisations to develop outline applications with 27 presenting their proposed projects to a Welsh Government panel and 18 organisations successfully secured funding to develop robust feasibility studies for their proposed circular economy innovation project.”
