Cardiff bride lets students plan wedding day

A bride from Cardiff enlisted the help of students from Cardiff Metropolitan University to plan her wedding day with over 350 guests at Llandaff Cathedral.

Ceris Palser (previously Probert), 39, who lives in Llandaff and is Careers Team Manager at Cardiff Met, gave Events Management students the responsibility of planning and coordination of her special day.

Ceris said: “Some of our students had expressed a specific interest in wedding coordination; however, they were struggling to find experience. Therefore, I was asked if they could have any involvement in the planning of my big day. With full faith in their capabilities, I was delighted to have them involved.

“We worked closely sourcing suppliers, setting budgets, liaising with venues, and drafting event plans. Ultimately, on the big day, I passed over all co-ordination to the students. It was a large event with more than 350 guests, held in the beautiful surroundings of Llandaff Cathedral, with 14 different suppliers to manage and the added threat of Storm Oscar during the week of the wedding.

“The students executed the event with precision and passion, with guests saying it was the best wedding they had ever attended. My eternal gratitude goes to our fantastic students, I look forward to following their future careers and have no doubt they will make great event managers.”

Ceris, 39, married her now husband Mark, at Llandaff Cathedral and had the reception at Insole Court. They have been together for 21 years since meeting on their first day of university in 2002. They were joined on their wedding day by their two daughters, Darcey, seven, and Pippa, five.

Events Management student Cerian Swain, 21, was among those involved in the planning and execution of Ceris’ wedding. She said: “What a whirlwind of excitement and challenges having the incredible opportunity to coordinate Ceris’s wedding. It was undeniably one of the most demanding events I’ve worked on, but the rewards were immeasurable.

“From the early hours of the morning until the late-night last dance, I was immersed in every aspect of the wedding. To Ceris and her new spouse, your love story inspired us all – thank you for entrusting me with the coordination of your special day.”
