Improve your performance with physiological testing

The Sport Physiology Hub at Cardiff Metropolitan University’s Cyncoed Campus measures your physiological responses to exercise, providing accurate and evidence-based data to help improve your training and performance.

We offer testing for everyone, including runners, cyclists, triathletes and team-sport athletes.

Fitness technology, including watches, mobile phones and training applications, can provide fascinating information, but much of this data is based on estimations and predictions. Using research-level equipment and methods already employed with elite athletes, we can directly measure many of the variables that influence performance.

Our testing can help you establish training zones, understand your strengths and weaknesses, evaluate your current fitness and monitor your progress over time.

Whether you’re just getting started and want to know how to train effectively, or are looking to perform at an elite level, our physiological testing can offer accurate and evidence-based data to target your training.

Our most common tests for endurance athletes include:

  • VO2 max (maximal rate of oxygen consumption),
  • Lactate threshold
  • Running economy or cycling efficiency
  • Super-shoe comparisons
  • Evaluation of training sessions
  • Other services can be arranged on a bespoke basis.
